LADIES GOLF

We have a thriving Ladies’ section with over 90 members. The Ladies’ section is well known as being friendly and welcoming and continues to expand. In the last 18 months we have seen 24 new lady members join the club, many of them new to golf. We are busy encouraging them and newcomers to join in all aspects of the section.

The Ladies’ playing groups schedule is a busy one, with numerous informal and competition events throughout the week. There is much to get involved with.

In addition to our own playing groups and competitions we play friendly matches against other local clubs. These can be organised as either Ladies’ or Mixed events. If you are looking to get involved in something more competitive we also take part in inter-club competitions such as the Pearson Trophy.

LADIES CAPTAIN

Fatima Brown

“I am the Ladies’ Captain for 2024 at TGC. I moved down to Kent 5 years ago, a new golfer without a handicap and never had club membership. New to the area I was determined to join a club to make friends and attain a handicap. There were 5 clubs to choose from so I joined the U3A during one of their Twilight golf afternoons here at TGC. The group was a mixture of members and non-members who were so friendly that I thought this is the club for me and looked no further! The lady members were very welcoming and helped me gain a handicap so I was able to join the Tuesday morning playing group competitions. We have a variety of competitions, some “fun” and some for trophies. For those who are unable to play on Tuesdays, some of our trophy competitions are linked to the weekends as well. We also have a couple of informal playing groups, on Thursday and Saturday mornings. During the summer, we arrange friendly matches, both home and away, against other local clubs, for ladies and mixed pairs. We also join inter-club competitions every year: – the Pearson Trophy, the Tappin trophy and the newly formed Kent Ladies League. I am passionate about the progression of new golfers from that first swing to getting a handicap and joining in our competitions. We welcome new members and there are Monday coaching groups at the academy for new players. We have a Women in Golf team to help with beginner progress onto the course. One of our WIG team members usually attends the group coaching sessions to get to know the new players and introduce them to our “buddy scheme”. This is where one of our members will take new players out on the course to teach golf etiquette, basic rules, also how to mark a card and get a handicap. We invite new ladies to join us for one or two “fun” games each year on Tuesday mornings. Tenterden Golf Club is a member of the Women in Golf Charter which aims to increase participation in golf for girls and women. We have a coaching group for girls from Homewood school with our pro, with this aim in mind. We have a good rapport with the Club Captain Kevin Steele and the mens’ playing groups, we often arrange fun competitions with them throughout the year. The charity I have chosen to sponsor during my captaincy is Demelza, a charity which helps support families with children that have serious or life-limiting conditions, they provide support from first diagnosis to end of life care. If you would like to know more about the club or would like me to show you round or organise a game of golf then please contact me – fats.burclaff@btinternet.com”
